International Visitor Arrivals to Georgia: August, 2017

 

In January – August, 2017 the number of international arrivals in Georgia amounted to 5,059,106, showing an increase of 18.9% compared to the same period of previous year. Out of the total number of visits, 2,402,499 lasted longer than 24 hours (+ 29.4%). The majority of foreign travelers were Azerbaijanian (+10.4%), Armenian (+16.8%), Russian (+33.9%), Turkish (-6.6%)  and Iranian (+141.9%).

A positive trend in arrivals was also observed among citizens of the European Union countries. A notable increase was registered of Dutchman +38%, German +32%, British +31% and French +29% travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Saudi Arabia +196%, Kuwait +178%, Iran +142% and India +99%.

During the period of January – August, 154 countries recorded an increase in the number of international arrivals, which in figures amounted to 865,223. Top eleven countries showing increase of more than 8,000 international arrivals registered cumulative increase amounting to 754,377 (87% of total increase).

In August, 2017 the number of international arrivals in Georgia amounted 1,080,449, representing a 27.4% increase over the same period of 2016. In August, the majority of travelers were citizens of the following countries: Armenia (+11.7%), Russia (+27.8%), Azerbaijan (+18.5%), Turkey (+42.2%) and Iran (+85.1%). Out of the total number of visits, 573,368 lasted longer than 24 hours (increase +27.2%). A positive trend was also maintained of the nationalities of the European Union countries. Notable increase was registered of Italian +42%, British +40%, French +39% and German +32% travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Saudi Arabia +176, Kuwait +168%, India +87%, Iran +85% and Turkey +42%.

During this period, 132 countries recorded an increase in the number of international arrivals, which in total amounted to 232,811. Top twelve countries showing increase of more than 2,000 international arrivals registered cumulative increase amounting to 208,658 (89% of total increase).
