International Visitor Arrivals to Georgia: May, 2017

 

In January – May, 2017 the number of international arrivals in Georgia amounted to 2,329,677 , showing an increase of 9.7% compared to the same period of previous year. Out of the total number of visits, 981,668 lasted longer than 24 hours (+ 25%). The majority of foreign travelers were Azerbaijanian (+5.6%), Armenian (+13.2%), Turkish (-17.8%), Russian (+22.1%) and Iranian (+224%).
A positive trend in arrivals was also observed among citizens of the European Union countries. A notable increase was registered of Dutchman +34%, German +27%, French +27%, British +22% and Polish +21% travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Iran +224%, Uzbekistan +192%, India +123%, Israel +55% and China +40%.

During the period of January – May, 142 countries recorded an increase in the number of international arrivals, which in figures amounted to 302,473. Top nine countries showing increase of more than 3,000 international arrivals registered cumulative increase amounting to 285,199 (85% of total increase).

In April, 2017 the number of international arrivals in Georgia amounted 552,958, representing a 5.7 % increase over the same period of 2016.
In April, the majority of travelers were citizens of the following countries:  Azerbaijan (+8.5%), Armenia (+8.9%),Turkey (-24.4%), Russia (+16.8%) and Iran (+212.1%). Out of the total number of visits, 245,403 lasted longer than 24 hours (increase +19.6%). A positive trend was also maintained of the nationalities of the European Union countries. Notable increase was registered of Austrian +68%, Dutchman +31%, French +20%, Italian +18% and British +14% travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Iran +212%, Uzbekistan +206%, India +78%, China +70% and Israel +41%.
During this period, 124 countries recorded an increase in the number of international arrivals, which in total amounted to 64,574. Top eight countries showing increase of more than 1,000 international arrivals registered cumulative increase amounting to 54,713 (85% of total increase).
